Expansion
Both AAP and BJP can repeat the candidates for mayor and deputy mayor. The notification for the election of mayor, deputy mayor will be issued on Wednesday. With this the enrollment process will start. April 18 will be the last date for nomination. Nominations are likely to be filed by both the parties at the last moment itself. Elections for mayor and deputy mayor are to be held in the first meeting of the house on April 26. Mayor Shelly Oberoi’s term ends on March 31.
As soon as the date of the mayor’s election was announced, the excitement has increased in the civic center, the corporation’s headquarters. If the councilors of Aam Aadmi Party are to be believed then Shaili Oberoi is sure to become the mayor candidate again. While the situation is completely clear regarding the result of the mayoral election, but there is discussion in the political circles that in view of the Lok Sabha elections next year, the BJP will try its best to make its mayor.
majority in your favor
Out of total 274 votes for the mayoral election, 150 votes are currently in favor of AAP, while 116 votes are with BJP. Last year on December 7, elections were held for 250 wards of the corporation. In this, the Aam Aadmi Party had registered a victory and defeated the BJP, which had been in power for 15 years in the MCD. AAP had won 134 seats, BJP was reduced to 104 seats. Congress got only nine seats. Independent candidates won three seats. On February 22, AAP candidates Shelly Oberoi were elected mayor and Aale Iqbal deputy mayor in the election of mayor, deputy mayor. It was only after this that Pawan Sehrawat, who was AAP councilor from Bawana ward, joined the BJP.
Increased activism in the BJP camp
The Aam Aadmi Party has a majority in the MCD, but if sources are to be believed, activism has increased in the BJP camp regarding the mayor’s election. BJP’s activism is no less than trouble for AAP. If BJP succeeds in breaking about two dozen councilors of AAP, then its big message will go to the public in the Lok Sabha elections and then the path of CM Arvind Kejriwal’s election plans will not be easy. At present, it is not easy for BJP to break AAP’s councilors and bring them in their fold because most of the councilors of both AAP-BJP parties are looking neutral towards their respective parties, but on the other hand it is equally true that in MCD politics It is also common for councilors to change parties because the anti-defection law does not apply to corporation councillors.
